Monster Hunter Outlanders Assault, Disruptor, Support
The three Monster Hunter Outlanders classes, mapped to Adventurers, Buddies, and real hunt jobs.
Monster Hunter Outlanders borrows a party-RPG triangle the mainline games never needed. You still swing a Great Sword. You also sit in Assault, Disruptor, or Support, and the other three hunters in your co-op hunt sit in the other chairs. This page is the job description. Assault
Assault is the high-damage seat. Official CBT copy is blunt: it “excels at dealing high damage.” That is the floor, not the ceiling.
Who is Assault today
- Pyro — Great Sword, pain-to-power, charged finishers. Assault Great Sword, not the only Great Sword.
- Luka — Bow, Thunder Coating, high mobility Assault from range.
- Ouyang Varen — Lance, guard, Impetus thrusts.
- Midori — Long Sword in a shamisen, Spirit Gauge, counters.
- Palico — Assault Buddy, weapons and items.
Notice the spread. Assault is not “stand in front and left-click.” Midori is an evasive counter kit. Luka is a bow. Ouyang Varen is the closest thing Outlanders has to a tank that still counts as damage. If your party already has Pyro, a second Assault should be Luka or Midori so you are not stacking two Great Swords on the same part.
Assault owns openings. When a Radiant Anjanath finishes a flame and plants its jaw, Assault is the seat that spends the window. If that window is a charged Great Sword, Pyro wants the head. If it is a Spirit combo, Midori wants the tail cut before the next spin.
Disruptor
Disruptor exists because mobile hunts are shorter and monsters frenzy harder. Official copy: “controls monsters and applies debuffs.” In CBT language that means interrupt, slow, aerial vault, Demon Mode pressure, and making a monster miss the next big tell.
Who is Disruptor today
- Keres — Dual Blades, follow-up storms.
- Raya — Dual Blades, stamina-into-Demon Gauge, Kulu-Ya-Ku kit.
- Pepper — Heavy Bowgun, aerial fire, Ultimate that interrupts and slows.
- Freya — Great Sword, Fire Disruptor, CBT 3 SSR on Crimson Authority. Story commander with a gacha card. Freya.
- Rutaco — Aesoland monkey Buddy, tools and Radiantite construction.
Two Dual Blades Adventurers look redundant until you hunt. Raya is the evasive dancer; Keres is the rush. Pepper is the ranged Disruptor. Freya is Disruptor Great Sword — do not stack her with Pyro and call it coverage. If your Assault is already melee, Pepper’s interrupt or Freya’s fire pressure is worth more than a third blade.
Disruptor is the seat that answers “how do I stop this.” Radiant Diablos lining up a horn charge, Radiant Rathian loading venom, Ruger Aidal gathering radiant particles — those are Disruptor moments. The how to hunt Radiant species guide is written around those windows.
Support
Support heals, buffs, and rescues. On a phone, that also means “somebody is looking at the cart timer.” Official CBT copy lists medicines, Spores, and ally boosts.
Who is Support today
- Madelyn — Bow, poison-as-medicine, Spores that detonate for damage and party buffs.
- Arkaya — Lance, Resolve into a shielded blow. Support that still stands on the face.
- Trillan — Owl Buddy, voice-based support, native to Aesoland.
Madelyn is the obvious first Support. Her Spores are a delayed raid buff and a damage proc. Arkaya is the weirder pick: a Support Lance that spends Resolve on a giant shield. If your party hates bows, Arkaya is how you keep a shield without losing the Support label.
Support is not optional on Ruger Aidal. Elder Dragon heat waves cart people who thought four Assaults was a personality.
Mixing the triangle
A competent four-player party looks like this:
- One dedicated Assault (Pyro, Midori, or Ouyang Varen).
- One dedicated Disruptor (Pepper if you need interrupt, Raya or Keres if you need status).
- One dedicated Support (Madelyn or Arkaya).
- The Fated Adventurer filling the hole — often a second Assault weapon the named hunters do not cover, such as Hammer once you unlock it.
Buddies should not clone the hole. If you already lack Support, take Trillan. If you lack Disruptor, take Rutaco. The Buddy page is short on purpose; the decision is that simple.
Solo hunters still pick a class, then borrow a Buddy. Assault + Trillan is the safest first climb through getting started. Assault + Palico is the “I want to feel like Monster Hunter” pairing. Read controls before you blame the class for a missed roll.
Class versus weapon
Class is the party job. Weapon is the move set. They overlap but they are not the same. Bow is Assault on Luka and Support on Madelyn. Lance is Assault on Ouyang Varen and Support on Arkaya. Dual Blades are Disruptor on both Raya and Keres, which is why the weapon tier list and the Adventurer tier list disagree on Dual Blades — the weapon is fine, the second Disruptor blade kit is the question.
When in doubt, pick the class the hunt needs, then pick the weapon you can actually play on a phone. Classic Mode will punish a class pick you cannot execute.

What are the Monster Hunter Outlanders classes?
Assault deals the damage. Disruptor controls and debuffs. Support heals, buffs, and rescues. Every Adventurer and Buddy is locked to one of the three, except the Fated Adventurer.
Can I change an Adventurer’s class?
Named Adventurers cannot change class or weapon. Only the Fated Adventurer can swap both.
Do I need all three classes?
For free hunts on small monsters, no. For Radiant species, Elder Dragon windows, and ranked hunts, missing Support or Disruptor is how parties cart.
Which class is best for solo?
Assault with a Buddy that covers the hole. Palico rides with Assault, Trillan with Support. Solo Radiant hunts still want a Support kit or a very patient Lance.
Is Assault just DPS?
Yes in headline, no in practice. Pyro’s Assault kit eats hits. Ouyang Varen’s Assault kit is a shield. Read the Adventurer, not just the label.
