Monster Hunter Outlanders Aesoland
The original island: biomes, watchtowers, traversal, and why the map is part of the hunt.
Aesoland is the continent Monster Hunter Outlanders was built to sell. It is not a reused Ancient Forest and it is not a Niantic sidewalk. It is a seamless hunting island whose mineral, Radiantite, is both loot and lore. Garena and some Korean pages print Isolesia for the same island. One continent, two publisher names. This wiki follows the English site’s Aesoland and notes Isolesia so a Garena screenshot does not look like a second map. Use this page to orient. Use the monster list to pick a target once you can see the fog.
The arrival
You play the Fated Adventurer, a captain of the Adventurer’s Guild, arriving with Commander Freya to investigate the Aurora. A Rathian attacks the airship. You land in jungle, save a coastal village, and found the Storm Crew — the name the group takes after arriving in a storm. Village chief Bale and his niece Holly are the people you actually talk to while the Aurora stays opaque.
That coastal camp is your first facility node. Everything in the crafting guide grows out of wreckage and village labor, including Buddy-built cannons. If you skip camp because you want a Rathalos, you skip the traversal tools that make the open map usable.
Biomes and named locales
Official pitch language lists forest, marsh, and desert stitched together. CBT 2 opened two named expansions testers actually walked:
- Giantwood Locale — vertical wood, glider lines, the kind of space Midori’s Long Sword likes.
- Searing Plains — open heat, sightlines for Bow and Heavy Bowgun, ugly for Dual Blades players who refuse to sheathe.
More locales will ship. This wiki will not invent a full atlas from a trailer pan. When a patch names a swamp or a ridge, it lands here with a date.
Watchtowers are the exploration verb. Restore them to clear fog of war, unlock fast travel, and surface icons for nodes and monsters. DualShockers’ CBT feature treats that loop as the reason exploration is not just jogging between hunts. If a tower is still dark, you do not know the Radiant that lives behind it.
Traversal without a bird
There are no Seikrets. Movement is gliders, zip lines, and trampolines, plus whatever you build. That is closer to a craft-survival mobile game than to Wilds. It is also why Rutaco exists as a Disruptor Buddy who “uses tools and Radiantite to build.” Read Buddies if you thought companions were only Palico slapstick.
Lock-on and camera still matter more than the glider. The controls page is the combat half of map literacy.
Overworld hunts versus energy hunts
Two loops share the same geography:
- Roaming hunts and gathering. Nodes and wandering large monsters, no extra gate in CBT reports. Good for learning tells and topping materials.
- Structured Free Hunt. The efficient part farm. This is where the energy cap shows up — the mobile convention testers argued about, and the review does not pretend is popular.
If you are new, roam. If you are targeting a specific Radiant part, spend energy. If you are out of energy, go restore a watchtower or craft a facility instead of sitting on a refill timer refreshing a Discord.
What the island is hiding
The Aurora. Lapua legends. Ruger Aidal as a “second sun.” Native Buddy species that were here before the guild. Radiantite in the dirt. Outlanders is using an original continent so it can tell a story that is not “Village Elder says go here.” You still hunt. You also assemble the island.
Practical order:
- Getting started — crash, camp, first wyvern.
- This map — towers, Giantwood, Plains.
- Monster list — pick a name you can see.
- Radiant species — when the base version is boring.
- Ruger Aidal — when the party is real.
Co-op does not change the geography. It changes whether you cart in the open. Four players can still get lost in fog if nobody restored the tower. Assign one person per hunt to “map,” the way you assign Support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers for hunters landing on Aesoland.
Is Aesoland an open world?
Yes, relative to classic Monster Hunter maps. Forest, swamp, and desert stitch together without the old zone loading. Watchtowers clear fog and unlock fast travel. Isolesia on Garena/KR pages is the same continent.
What is Radiantite?
The island’s unique mineral. It alters monsters into Radiant species and is used by native Buddies as a building material.
Can I hunt in the overworld without quests?
CBT testers could hunt roaming monsters and gather nodes freely. Structured Free Hunt missions used an energy cap.
Are there mounts like Seikret?
No Seikrets. Traversal is gliders, zip lines, and trampolines, plus whatever camp facilities you craft.
Where do I start on the map?
A coastal village rebuilt after the airship crash. Chief Bale and Holly are the human anchors. Expand outward by restoring watchtowers.
