Monster Hunter Outlanders Ranged weapons

Ranged weapons in Monster Hunter Outlanders are not a casual concession. They are how you answer air time, how Support actually plays, and how Pepper exists as a Disruptor instead of another Dual Blades. This page covers Bow and Heavy Bowgun. Weapon Overview｜Bow

Bow

The bow is still a weak-spot weapon. Coatings, charge shots, and mobility. Two named hunters split it into opposite party jobs.

Madelyn — Support Bow. Precise bow, medicines, Spores. Skills attach Spores that detonate for damage and ally buffs. Her flavour text is poison-as-medicine, Pukei-coded. She is the default Support in team compositions because the kit does three things at once: range, heal, delayed damage.

Luka — Assault Bow. Lightning-wreathed, unmatched mobility, Thunder Coating that crackles through on precise casts. This is the bow you pick when you want to be the damage seat, not the medic. Airborne Radiant Rathalos is Luka’s job interview.

If you create a Fated Adventurer on Bow, decide the class before the coating. Support Bow without Spores is just a worse Madelyn. Assault Bow without Luka’s thunder tricks is still a valid mainline-style bow, and that is fine.

Play Bow if you can track a part with lock-on and still move. The controls lock-on is closer to a body-part Focus than to Monster Hunter Now’s tap-the-monster routine. Use it.

Heavy Bowgun

Pepper is the named HBG: powerful shots, skills that send her airborne, rapid midair fire, an Ultimate that interrupts and slows. That last clause is why she is Disruptor, not Assault artillery.

Official overview notes that survive from the weapon page and press:

• Highest firepower among the historical ranged set.
• Special ammo that is limited and regenerates, or returns on shots.
• Perfect guards can instantly reload.
• Perfect evades improve mobility or enable counters.
• A Wyvernheart-style barrage when you dump into weak spots.

HBG on a phone is a stance weapon. You plant, you shoot, you relocate with the air skill. If you try to Dual-Blades-strafe with a Heavy Bowgun, you will eat every roar. Pair Pepper with a Lance so someone else holds the face. Comp 3 on the team comps page is that idea in a table.

When to sit at range

• The monster is a flyer more than a walker.
• Your melee friends cannot see the back of the head.
• You are the Support and you refuse to stand under a tail.
• You need an interrupt that is not a Dual Blades trip.

When not to:

• You have never touched a bow in the series and you are on a 5-inch phone in a moving train. Use Adventure Mode or a Lance.
• The hunt is a horn charge exam. Guard first.

Ammo, coatings, and energy (the mission stamina, not your dash stamina) all gate how long you can stay in a dedicated hunt. Do not dump special ammo on a flashing tail unless the Radiant guide said that tail is the hunt.
